Symbian is going to push out S40 out of all but the most basic phones – the newly leaked Nokia C5 is good evidence of that. With a modest price tag this handset would steer many buyers in Symbian direction.
The Nokia C5 is also the first phone of the Cseries we’ve seen yet – remember back in July last year when Nokia trademarked Xseries and Cseries? With the Nokia X3 and the Nokia X6 we saw the Xseries – the successors of the XpressMusic lineup – and now it’s clear that the Cseries takes over where the “classic” phones left off.

Symbian goes fully open source, it’s a free download to all

There have been quite a few rumors about the fate of Symbian, but now the OS has entered a new stage of its existence – its code is now open source. This move began in June 2008, when Nokia bought Symbian and created the Symbian Foundation to take over the development of the OS. And the Foundation has big plans for the future.

Nokia holds back S40 to make way for Maemo and Symbian

Today, at its annual Capital Markets Day event, Nokia revealed some details about it OS distribution strategies that we find particularly interesting. Apparently the company has finally realized two important things concerning its products. First, that the Maemo OS has great potential and second that their S40 feature phone UI is long outdated (at least in the midrange).

Nokia tease with Symbian UI improvements coming in 2010
